Sergey Nikonenko

Good design makes all the difference in financial apps and websites. When people use banking, payment, or investment tools, they need to understand what they’re doing and feel confident about their money.

In this article, we look at why design is essential for wealth management solutions, what design agencies do, and how to pick the right one for your project. We’ll cover the top agencies in the field, what to look for when choosing a partner, and what warning signs to watch out for.

Key takeaways

  • Good design builds trust and simplifies complex financial processes, leading to higher user satisfaction and customer loyalty.
  • Fintech design agencies offer more than just visual design — they provide industry expertise, regulatory knowledge, and user research capabilities.
  • When choosing an agency, look for relevant financial experience, a strong portfolio of fintech work, and clear communication about their processes.
  • Watch for warning signs like generic portfolios, lack of fintech industry understanding, and unclear pricing structures.

Why fintech companies need good UX/UI design

Financial technology is inherently complex, dealing with sensitive data, transactions, and regulatory requirements. This complexity makes effective UX/UI design essential.

When users interact with financial applications, they make important decisions about their money. Poor design creates friction, confusion, and distrust. A well-designed interface, however, can simplifiy complex processes and guide users through financial tasks with confidence.

Most importantly, thoughtful design builds trust. Visual cues that reinforce security, clear confirmation, and transparent presentation of fees and terms all contribute to user confidence.

With Broex, we followed all the principles of good fintech design: clear navigation, color accents, and readable fonts

Ultimately, good UX/UI design leads to higher user adoption, lower support costs, increased customer loyalty, and better business outcomes.

What a fintech design agency does

Fintech design agencies combine design expertise with financial industry knowledge to build functional and user-friendly products.

1. UX/UI design for financial applications

Fintech design agencies create the visual and interactive elements of banking apps, payment platforms, and investment tools. They design screens that guide users through complex financial tasks while maintaining clarity and simplicity.

This includes creating intuitive navigation systems, clear transaction flows, and visual hierarchies that highlight important information. Good fintech designers know how to present dense financial information without overwhelming users.

An overwhelming landing page can distract customers. That’s why we prioritized simplicity when designing a crypto wallet.

2. Digital transformation consulting

These agencies help traditional financial institutions modernize their digital presence. They assess existing systems, identify pain points, and develop strategies for improvement.

This involves helping companies shift from legacy systems to more flexible, user-centered solutions. Consultants bridge the gap between business goals, technical requirements, and user needs to create realistic transformation roadmaps.

3. Product design and development

Fintech design agencies take financial products from concept to launch. They define product features, create prototypes, and refine designs.

This process involves working closely with developers to ensure designs are technically feasible while maintaining the intended user experience. Agencies stay involved through development to address design questions and maintain quality.

4. Brand identity and strategy

Beyond individual screens or features, agencies develop brand identities for fintech products. This includes visual systems, tone of voice guidelines, and messaging frameworks that build trust and recognition.

They ensure that the product’s look and feel aligns with its values and differentiates it in the marketplace.

5. User research and testing

Agencies conduct research to understand user needs, behaviors, and pain points. They use interviews, surveys, and usability testing to validate design decisions.

This research helps identify problems early, saving development time and costs. Regular testing ensures the final product meets user needs, rather than just following design trends or assumptions.

Our experience

We designed We’re All Winners, a coupon app with a twist — users can participate in prize drawings. The design features a clean interface with a map-based home screen where users can place pins and filter establishments by category. We chose a simple black and white color scheme with soft orange accents that stand out without being distracting.

A significant design challenge was creating a fully bilingual experience supporting both English and Arabic, which required careful attention to right-to-left text formatting, font size adjustments, and icon repositioning.

Our experience

We also designed Kaiju, a crypto wallet that solves a key problem in blockchain gaming — the high dropout rate caused by complicated wallet setup processes. The design team created an interface that balances traditional wallet functions with playful elements that appeal to gamers.

Rather than using the serious look of typical finance apps, we introduced friendly cartoon characters throughout the experience. These characters welcome users during onboarding and appear during transactions, making complex financial processes feel more approachable. The dark background with bright accent colors creates a gaming-like atmosphere while maintaining readability.

How to choose the right fintech design agency

The right agency brings both design excellence and financial domain knowledge to your project. Here’s how to evaluate potential partners effectively.

1. Evaluate industry expertise and knowledge

Look for agencies that understand the financial sector’s unique challenges. They should speak knowledgeably about banking processes, payment systems, or investment platforms depending on your needs.

Agencies with fintech experience will anticipate problems before they arise and won’t need extensive education about industry basics. Check if they’ve worked with companies similar to yours or with comparable products.

<div class="post_divider"></div>

Our experience

We redesigned Budss, an app that gives users cashback when they shop at partner stores. The main challenge was making the app work well as both a payment tool and a social platform.

The design team solved this by splitting the main screen into two distinct parts: a black section for payment and cashback functions and a white section for the social feed where users share purchases.

We kept the payment screens simple and quick to use, with clear checkboxes for payment methods. Throughout the app, we used a clean black and white color scheme with small touches of purple and green, making it look modern but still trustworthy.

<div class="post_divider"></div>

🚩 Red flags:

  • generic portfolios with no financial sector experience, indicating they’ll learn at your expense,
  • inability to discuss specific fintech challenges or regulations during initial conversations,
  • overemphasis on visual design while showing limited understanding of financial user journeys.

2. Analyze portfolio and case studies

Examine their previous work critically. Beyond attractive interfaces, look for evidence that their designs solved real business problems.

Good case studies will explain the challenges faced, the approach taken, and measurable results achieved. The best portfolio pieces demonstrate both visual appeal and functional sophistication.

🚩 Red flags:

  • case studies lacking concrete metrics or business outcomes,
  • portfolios showing only conceptual work rather than launched products,
  • projects that prioritize flashy visuals over usability and conversion optimization.

3. Assess understanding of financial regulations and compliance

Your design partner should understand frameworks like KYC, AML, GDPR, and other relevant regulations. They should explain how their design process incorporates compliance requirements without compromising usability.

<div class="post_divider"></div>

Our experience

We built KEM, an app that lets people in Kuwait send money to each other. Security was a primary concern throughout development, with PIN-based authentication protecting user accounts from unauthorized access.

Initially, we created a version with simulated data to demonstrate functionality while protecting real financial information. Before gaining access to actual financial APIs, the platform had to meet Kuwait’s banking security standards. Only after successful demonstration did we receive API access, and even then under strict security conditions.

Despite these challenges, the project successfully balanced user-friendly design with stringent security requirements, ultimately securing $1 million in funding.

<div class="post_divider"></div>

🚩 Red flags:

  • dismissive attitude toward compliance requirements as “limiting creativity”,
  • no established process for incorporating regulatory requirements into design workflows,
  • inability to explain how they’ve balanced compliance with user experience in past projects.

4. Consider collaboration and communication style

The agency’s working process matters as much as their technical skills. Ask about their collaboration methods, how they handle feedback, and how they communicate progress.

Consider whether their team structure matches your needs. Some agencies offer dedicated teams, while others rotate specialists. Determine which approach works better for your project timeline and management style.

🚩 Red flags:

  • vague or inconsistent communication channels with no clear point of contact,
  • resistance to using your preferred collaboration tools or project management systems,
  • history of scope creep or significant timeline extensions on previous projects.

5. Compare pricing structures

Some agencies work on fixed-price contracts, others bill hourly, and some use value-based pricing. Look beyond the headline rate to understand what’s included.

Does the price cover market research, user testing, and revisions? Are there additional costs for specialized skills or expedited timelines? The cheapest option rarely provides the best value, especially for complex fintech projects where design mistakes can be costly.

🚩 Red flags:

  • unusually low pricing that doesn’t align with market rates for specialized fintech design,
  • unclear pricing structure with numerous potential add-ons and hidden costs,
  • no flexibility in contract terms to accommodate the iterative nature of product development.

Conclusion

Hiring fintech designers is crucial for fintech success. The agencies featured here demonstrate different strengths in combining financial expertise with design excellence. Making financial tools easy to use isn’t simple, but with the right design help, you can create products that people trust and enjoy using.

➡️ We at Purrweb understand both the technical requirements and user expectations of financial products, and we’re ready to help turn your financial vision into reality. <a class="blog-modal_opener">Fill out the form</a> and get a free project estimation in 48 hours!
